What is Veto Power?

Veto is a Latin word that means "forbid or refuse to allow". In the United Nations Security Councils(UNSC) if and when major problems come up, all the members have to agree and vote for a particular solution. If even one member disagrees then it can say "NO" and that solution won't be implemented, that "No"is called a veto.

Currently, there are fifteen members of UNSC out of which five are permanent holders of veto, which are US, UK, France, Russia and China. When UNSC was formed, India was offered the veto, but at that time Indian Prime Minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru refused to accept it and insisted to give it to China.

The reason behind this refusal was, countries with Veto power need to spend a huge amount on UNO (United Nations Organization), when India got freedom and was offered veto power it was also said that India needs to take care of 7% of the total expenses of UNO, which was not possible for India at that time.So Jawaharlal Nehru wanted to give this Veto to an Asian country in the hope of support so he decided to insist it for China in the hope of friendship but we never knew country can also be a fake friend(Don't fear the Enemy That Attacks You, but The Fake Friend That Hugs You).

So now India can become a permanent member of the UNSC and get veto power? Probably No, still we will find it hard to spent such a huge amount of money in UNO, we can but it won't be easy. Also, other members will not accept cause nobody wants to share power, even if they do, China still be our biggest hinder.
