Constructivist Approach

This Approach believes that students construct their own knowledge on basis of observation, understanding and experience.In this students are engaged in some activities to gain knowledge rather then gaining knowledge passively.Constructivism is theory about knowledge and learning (Describes what knowing is and how one comes to know) It also describes knowledge as temporary, developmental, non objective, internally constructed, and socially and culturally mediated.Knowledge is not passively received but actively built up by the subject.Learning is a social process in which we grow into the intellectual life of those around us.

  • Learner centered approach as learning process is orgainzed in accordance to needs and mental level of learners.
  • Teacher acts as a guide who facilitates learning by creating situations.
  • Democratic environment as each student gets equal opportunity to participate in classroom activity.

Limitations

  • Time consuming method
  • Not suitable for small children
  • This approach acknowledges the complexity of the teaching/ learning cycle.
  • Every child have different mindset
  • Lack of trained teachers
  • Proper material aid and pre planning require.
