Do Textbooks reflect social realities

Here are few examples from NCERT Textbooks (Reflection of social realities, norms and view points of society)

1. Class 8 English NCERT PART:1 “HONEYDEW” Chapter 7 ‘A Visit To Cambridge’ shows you the viewpoint of people from different walks of life.

2. Class 8 English NCERT PART:2 “IT SO HAPPENED” Chapter 2 ‘Children At Work’ teaches students that we should be careful while behaving with children and should not ill-treat them otherwise they may be compelled to undertake extreme steps in unforeseen circumstances.

3. Class 7 English NCERT “HONEYCOMB” Chapter 3 ‘The Rebel’ gives an account of a rebel who does not abide the rules of society and does exactly the opposite of what others are doing. For example ,if he sees a person with long hair ,he will cut his hair short and so on.

4. Class 8 English NCERT PART:2 “IT SO HAPPENED” Chapter 7 ‘The Open Window’ illustrates that we should not believe other people’s words blindly ,who often try to manipulate or convince us to believe them.

5. Class 7 English NCERT “HONEYCOMB” Chapter 2 ‘The Gift Of Chappals’ tells that people should practice what they preach. The story is about innocence and generosity of kids.
